When severe weather strikes, a FORTIFIED Roof keeps the wind and rain out, preventing a cascade of damage that can destroy your home and belongings. FORTIFIED Roof was specifically designed to prevent damage that commonly occurs during high winds, hurricanes, hailstorms, severe thunderstorms, and even tornadoes up to EF-2. No matter what type of roof you have—shingles, metal, or tile—FORTIFIED Roof requirements will make your home stronger. FORTIFIED Roofs have stronger edges, a sealed roof deck, better attachment, and may include impact-resistant shingles. There are 3 levels of FORTIFIED roofs (Basic, Silver, Gold) with different requirements. Unless the FORTIFIED standard is part of your local building codes, it's typical that an additional inspection after construction is required to received FORTIFIED certification and to receive subsidies and insurance discounts. FORTIFIED Roofs may have to be recertified every five years to continue receiving insurance discounts.
If you live in a location with a risk of hurricane or severe storm damage (more than 20% of the United States) then you may want to consider a FORTIFIED Roof. Several states offer subsidies for FORRTIFIED Roof construction and many insurance companies also offer discounts f your property is in a high-risk location.
A Fortified Solar Roos combines the requirements for a Fortified Roof with solar panels and may also include a power storage battery. We're currently researching the requirements specific to adding solar to a Fortified Roof to maintain the designation.
Navigating the process of finding a certified FORTIFIED contractor and getting the inspection approved can be complicated for property owners.
